How To Use Walt's Salve

The salve is soft and easy to work with. No tools needed, no skill required. Four steps:

Step 1 — Clean. Wipe the surface with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Get the dust off first so you're not rubbing it into the leather or wood.

Step 2 — Apply. Scoop a small amount onto a soft cloth or applicator brush. A little goes a long way. Work it in with small circular motions.

Step 3 — Let it absorb. Wait 10–15 minutes. The oils need a moment to migrate into the fibers.

Step 4 — Buff. Wipe over the surface with a clean cloth to bring out the natural sheen.

For very dry leather or wood that's been neglected for years, apply a second coat 24 hours after the first. That's when you'll see what this salve is really capable of.

To make your jar last: keep the lid sealed tight, store at room temperature out of direct sunlight, and use a clean cloth or brush each time. Stored properly, a jar stays good for 2+ years.

Will it darken my leather or wood?

I built this recipe to feed the leather, not to stain it. On most pieces, your sofa, your boots, your dining table, your dresser, the color stays exactly where it was. Sometimes a little richer. Never darker. The seams stay light. The grain keeps its natural tone.

I'll be straight with you. On very light leather (cream, off-white, raw aniline), there can be a small deepening of tone. Same goes for raw, unfinished wood. Not damage. Just a little more depth.

So I tell everyone the same thing I tell folks who walk into my workshop. Test a hidden spot first. Put a small dab somewhere nobody sees. Let it dry all the way. Then you know what you've got before you go over the whole piece.

Five minutes of testing saves you from a result you didn't want.

Does one jar really cover a whole sofa?

Yes. One jar does a three-seater sofa, with plenty left over for your boots, bags, belts, or a wooden side table. You're laying down a thin layer, not slathering it on. Most folks open the jar thinking they'll need three — and finish with half of it still there.

But here's what we've learned: nobody stops at the sofa. Once the jar's open, the dry dining table gets a coat, then the boots, then the leather jacket nobody's touched in two winters. And for a very large sectional — or something neglected for years — a second jar gives you a follow-up coat the next day. That's when the wood and leather really drink it in.

So we made it simple. Order two, the third is on us. One jar to bring the whole house back to life. One for the deep, second-coat jobs. And one sealed on the shelf — Walt pours just 240 a month, and a jar keeps for 2+ years, so you're never left waiting on the next batch.

One jar does the work of saddle soap, wood polish, leather conditioner, and scratch repair kits. Four cans on the shelf — one in your hand. Make it three jars of Walt's, and the whole house is sorted for years.

How is this different from the stuff at the hardware store?

Walk into any hardware store and you'll find shelves of silicone, petroleum, and glycerin. They sit on top of your wood, look shiny for a day, then attract dust and dry out the surface underneath. The leading wood restorer on those shelves lists carcinogens on its own safety datasheet. You're rubbing that into the table your kids eat off.

My salve is three things. Beeswax, hempseed oil, jojoba. No silicone. No petroleum. No fillers. No fumes.

It soaks into your leather and wood and rebuilds them from the inside. The way folks cared for these things before chemistry took over. It doesn't sit on top. It doesn't wash off the first time you mop. And it doesn't leave a sticky film like Pledge or Old English.

One jar replaces three or four bottles you've got under your sink.

How Does The Batch Work?

I pour one batch a month in my workshop here in Vermont. Every jar gets a batch number and the date I filled it, written on the bottom in my own hand. You'll see it when it lands on your doorstep.

That's how this workshop has always worked. One man. One batch. One month. Nothing rushed, nothing scaled, nothing trucked in.

Your jar ships from Vermont within 2 business days of your order. If the current batch sells out before you get to it, reserve one from the next pour. I'm already on it.

Designed to Bring Your Old Leather and Wood Back to Life

Fills Your Cracks From Within

Won't Darken Your Surface

Just 3 Natural Ingredients

Hand-Poured by Me

Made The Way Things Used To Be Made

I opened my repair shop in Vermont in 1985. People walked in with leather and wood they couldn't bear to throw out. The same things you've probably got in your house right now.

Store-bought sprays ruined the leather. So I mixed my own. Beeswax, hempseed oil, jojoba. Nothing else.

I'm 70. Still pour every batch myself, 240 jars at a time.

If you've got something you almost threw out, this jar is for you.

Way Better Than The Amazon Stuff

"I'd wasted money on a leather cream off Amazon that left my couch sticky and smelling like chemicals. Walt's is the opposite — you can smell the beeswax, it sinks right in, no greasy film. My husband thought I was crazy paying for it. Then he watched my old armchair come back to life."

One Jar Did My Whole Living Room

"I was on the fence about the price. But I did the sofa, two dining chairs, my boots, and my husband's old briefcase — and there's still salve left in the jar. Works out cheaper than the three different products I used to buy."

Shipping Took A Bit, But Worth The Wait

"Took a little longer to arrive than I expected — I think my batch was still being poured. That aside, it does exactly what's promised. The cracks on my leather recliner are gone and the color came back. My only regret is not ordering two."

My Dining Table Looks New Again

"Water rings from years of mugs, a few scratches from the kids. I'd tried everything — olive oil, that walnut trick, store polish. Nothing held. One go with Walt's and the marks just disappeared. No color matching, no sanding."

Skeptical At First — Not Anymore

"Figured it was just another overpriced balm. It's not. My 15-year-old leather boots were dry and cracking and I'd given up on them. Two coats and they're soft again. Wish I'd found this years ago."

You Can Tell It's Made By Hand

"It doesn't feel like a factory product. Mine came with a batch number written on the bottom and it actually smells natural, not perfumed. Used it on leather and on an old oak dresser — works on both. Already telling my sister to get one."
